Metro
The Metro provides the metropolitan area of Valencia with three rail lines and a modern tram line, covering a total length of 133 Km.

Tram
Valencian Railways (Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat Valènciana, or FGV) operates the Alicante – Denia line, which runs for 93 Km along the northern coast of the province of Alicante. It is served by thirteen diesel trains which operate between Alicante and Denia and five trams which cover the Alicante – El Campello route.

As train services can be very busy, it is wise to buy tickets online. Tickets can be ordered online for seats on AVE, AV Media Distancia, Talgo 200, TRD trains, R-598 and all Great Lines trains during the day.

Valencia Region Cercanías
The commuter rail service Cercanías Valencia serves Valencia and its metropolitan area. This service is operated by Cercanías RENFE, the commuter rail division of
RENFE.
Animals on Trains
There are regulations for animals travelling on trains within the Valencia
region:
Grandes Líneas, Regionales y AVE
- The animal must not cause inconvenience to other passengers
- The owner is responsible for the animal and any trouble it may cause while
on board the train
- Transport is limited to small domestic animals (pets) with a maximum
weight of 6 Kg
- Animals are charged at 50 per cent of a normal ticket for the journey and
class
- All guide and assistance dogs can travel for free
Cercanías
- Pets are able to travel regardless of their weight
- Animals do not have to be in a cage but must be on a leash and in the case
of dogs they should be muzzled
- Animals are not issued with a ticket and do not have to pay to travel in
the Cercanías
Bicycles on trains
Bicycles may be taken on RENFE trains depending on the route and the time.

Reductions & Discounts
There are numerous offers and discounts open to travellers who use the trains.
- Children under 6 years of age may travel for free if they do not occupy a seat
- Tarjeta Dorada (Golden Tickets), which allow the card holder substantial discounts for rail travel, are available to: people over the age of 60 or who receive a pension from the Spanish Social Security, retired army personnel and those with over a 65 percent disability. The cards can be obtained from train stations and travel agencies
- International passes granting discounts can also be acquired. For more information and sale points: Click here
- Group reductions vary from 30 to 50 percent depending on age
- Discounts of 20 to 50 per cent can be applied to large families
- Students can obtain a student card (Tarjeta Studio) and travel with college card (Viaja con el Colegio)
- The Abono 1, 3, 5 card is valid for unlimited travel for 1, 3 or 5 consecutive days. It can be bought in the Cercanías shops and is valid for travel in five zones
Valencia Tourist Card (VLC)
The Valencia Tourist Card entitles the holder to free public transport in the city of
Valencia (zone A) and discounts for museum visits, leisure activities, shops and restaurants. Establishments that accept the discount card will display a sticker.
Cards can be obtained from hotels, kiosks and tourist offices and are valid for a period of one, two or three days. The card is activated when used for the first time on public transport or when a date is stamped at a sales point. It is valid until midnight on the expiry date.
